Walk Around the Parliament Area

Today Tiffany I walked around the blocks near my flat. It was cold (-5 C) and a bit icy, but very pretty.

Front door of our building.

Looking North on the Danube,  from Margit Hid (Margaret Bridge).
On the right side, Pest, on the the left, St. Margaret Island.

From Margaret Island, my apartment building on the right.

A little bird :)

We walked down some very icy stairs.

And more Parliament!

From Margaret Bridge

From the walkway beside the Danube.

From the front - it's hard to see through the trees.

They were cleaning the building.

Finally, a clear picture of the dome!
There's quite a lot around parliament.

Bibo Istvan was a Hungarian lawyer, politician, and political theorist. During the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, a national revolt against the Soviet imposed policies of People's Republic of Hungary, Istvan was the Minister of State for the Hungarian National Government. He is most famous for his proclamation, "For Freedom and Truth", which he wrote in the parliament building as he awaited arrest from the invading Soviets.

The Ethnographic Museum of Budapest is right across the street from Parliament.

Sculpture on the top of the Ethnographic Museum.

Not sure what thisdepicts? Possibly St. Stevens?

A symbolic grave for those killed on October 23, 1956, by the invading Soviets during the
Hungarian Revolution of 1956.
Above the grave flew a Hungarian flag with a large hole in the middle, where the Soviet crest had been. You can see the crest on the flag on the grave.

Lajos Kossuth (1802 - 1894)
Kossuth was a the Regent-President of the Kingdom of Hungary during the revolution of 1848-49, in which Hungary fought a war of independence from the Austrian Empire, which was ruled by the Habsburg monarchy. During his lifetime, he was considered a force for democracy in Europe.

Miscellaneous Photos

Parliament has their own dock on the Danube!

On the top of one of the spikes on the Parliament
building, there is this strange statue of a person.
Is it a knight or guard of some sort?

Right outside of the parliament building, there is a large
marble rock, with the above text. We were unable to figure
out what is was, and google has not been useful...

And lastly, the juxtaposition of the old apartment buildings
with McDonalds. I  want to get a picture of a KFC - I have
never seen so many in one place before!
